Large farms account for half of U.S. ag production
Large-scale family farms, which have more than $1 million in annual gross cash farm income, account for 50% of U.S. agricultural production and 33% of the acres, according to 2024 data released by USDA.
USDA’s report is based on the latest data from the Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS).
Large-scale family farms make up only 5% of all U.S. farms based on USDA’s definition of a farm as having at least $1,000 in sales a year.
